Last week Brandon had a work conference in Savannah & so the little one & I tagged along for the ride. It was actually after my parents came back from a trip to Savannah several years ago that we fell in love with the name, but as of last week still hadn't been there. We had an amazing time! We had been looking forward to our first family trip for months & it was even better than I had dreamed! Bran worked during the day & so Savh & I would explore the town, shop & find neat restaurants to take him on his lunch break. Then we'd get to enjoy the evenings as a family. Savannah naps best on walks & so her little stroller was perfect for afternoon naps on the go. (You'll see she is sleeping in lots of the pics.)
She did great on her first airplane flight. She ate at take-off & landing, napped some & played. A few times she decided to talk loudly to the other passengers, but they were all very understanding : )
City Market was a block from our hotel & so we ate at some of the cafes there.
These beautiful flowers were everywhere in shades of pink & white.
We ate dinner at The Pirate's House which has been around since it was a bar in the 1700s for pirates. They even have a tunnel from the water where pirates would come straight through to the bar. Treasure Island was written about this house.
Here's our little pirate!
This guy looked & sounded exactly like Jack Sparrow from Pirates of the Caribbean.
And as Savh is pointing out, his beard is real! Sorry Jack!
Savh in her pirate shirt.
Nightly they had live bands playing in the City Market that you could sit & listen to.
She loved the colorful water fountains.
I fell in love with the sweet shops. That bowl is full of praline batter!
She slept...
Lunch at the Goose Feather Cafe'.
We loved the Savannah Bee Company. Here we are in the huge bee hive.
Inside the beehive they had tiny kid's chairs that said "Bee Happy".
Riding the little bumble bee.
The best part was the honey bar. You got to sample all the different kinds of honey & they sold things like 'honey lattes' & 'honey mint limeades'...I tried both : )
Not all men can look good pushing a pink stroller...but mine does!
There was lots of neat shopping down by the river. You can see the Savannah bridge behind us.
This pretty Spanish Moss grows in all the trees there.
This was the sweetest little book store that I spent one morning at buying little girl books.
Sweet Melissa's was a total hole-in-the-wall...but man the pizza was great! This was the first time Bran has ever called tea "too sweet"!
We drove out to Bonaventure Cemetery. Here's the famous Gracie statue.
Here's the famous Mercer House from Midnight in the Garden of Good & Evil.
So many beautiful churches.
And lots of courts with benches to sit & admire the view.
And the old houses were gorgeous.
At my request we had dinner at Paula Dean's restaurant called The Lady & Sons. I had to get there at 9:30 in the morning to put our name on the list & one of the only times left when I made it to the front of the line was 5:00 for dinner. She does a good business!
The food was so worth it though!! I had the gooey butter cake for dessert. Brandon said, "If I licked a cloud in Heaven, this is what it would taste like."
He was disappointed because he'd ordered a different dessert though : (
Little one slept.
Although she slept, Savh still got a onesie from the restaurant giftshop. If you don't know Paula, butter is her favorite food (which is why I like her so much!)
Of course we did a ghost tour one night. One of the stops was the cemetery at night...creepy!
We had a good home cooked breakfast at Clary's. This cafe is over 100 yrs old & in The Movie (That's what they call Midnight in the Garden of Good & Evil there.)
On the last day we drove out to Tybee Island. That's where the famous lighthouse is.
This was Savh's first time at the beach!
We had such a wonderful time & can't wait to go back & visit!!
