Spencer is One!

I can hardly believe that our little boy is one year old! And what a perfect little boy he is : ) He has had a rough ending to his first year (3 ear infections in the last two months in addition to the colds & coughs that are going around & a couple of bouts of stomach issues mostly associated to antibiotics) & yet he has been so sweet & tough through it all! One of the only bad things about a child that is so laid back & tough is that you don't know something is wrong (like an ear infection) until it is REALLY wrong. Our poor boy! So he was less himself & more of a spectator around the holidays & even his bday. I'm hoping the weather will finally warm up & that he will return to the full-of-energy boy we know & love! So I say all that to explain that being sick has affected his appetite & activity lately. When he is all well, he eats like a man & puts his sister to shame. He also grunts like a caveman constantly for his next bite & then throws his food when he's done & stands up in his highchair (so fun for Mommy right now, but we are breaking that habit). On a good morning he might eat an entire banana, a baby yogurt & a pancake. Crazy. He has been saying Mama for a while but perfected it while he was sick. That became his crutch word because he always wanted me & always wanted to be held. I won't complain because I know it won't last! His other favorite word is Hi & comes with a giant, full-arm wave. He is funny because he will lock in on someone (usually some stranger across the store) & wave them down like mad until they finally acknowledge him. He also loves to wave at Daddy when he comes home from work. Oh he loves his Daddy & especially playing rough with his Daddy! His sister continues to be his best friend. They have been having a blast playing with his new bday toys. She puts everything together, he watches & laughs, then destroys it & they both laugh. His favorite place to sneak off to play is her room because of all the fun toys & she puts her trashcan up where he can't knock it over & plays with him with all the patience & understanding in the world. They melt my heart the way they play together! He has recognized the phone & when he sees a play phone or real phone he puts it up to his ear. He has also discovered cars & likes to roll them around on the floor. I even found him on the kitchen floor this morning with a pouch of babyfood pushing it around like a car. All boy! Spencer, we are so thankful the Lord brought you into this family one year ago. You have blessed us more than we thought possible! We love you so much baby boy! (Yeah, I think I'm allowed to call you baby until you show some interest in the walking thing : ) No rush though!
